Changhyup Op, Samsung Research, Samsung Electronics, Staff Engineer, Data Intelligence Team
Following many years of research, Samsung announced in January the launch of the Personal Data Engine on its Galaxy S25 model. This represents probably the largest deployment of knowledge graph technology ever seen - on millions of devices in the pockets of people worldwide, and a significant step forward in knowledge graph technology going mainstream. In this talk, Changhyup Oh will share the journey that led from research to reality, how the personal knowledge graph powers AI on device capabilities, interoperability with generative AI, the role that ontologies have played and how logical rules and reasoning are being used to fully leverage the explicit data held in the knowledge graph – giving Samsung's users delightful experiences whilst securing privacy on device.
Peter Crocker will share the perspective of OST that was a fundamental part of Samsung’s journey – from it’s origins as a University of Oxford semantic spin-out in 2016 and the 7 years of collaboration and development of RDFox® that followed. He will also explore how continued academic research is powering some of the largest and most complex knowledge-based AI deployments, not just in Samsung but also in a variety of other global organisations and market sectors.
